چکیده

Abstract The aim of this article is to determine the effects hygrothermal ageing on tensile behaviour asymmetric discontinuous helicoidally stacked (Bouligand structured) carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites. Eight different Bouligand stacking sequences were manufactured using both major and minor pitch angles. angles used 90° 120° while at 5°, 10°, 15° 25° from each composites tested in tension as either dry unaged specimens or following seawater constant temperatures 40°C 60°C for over 2000 h. Both modulus strength are found be detrimentally affected by extent which affects these properties shown a function inter-ply angle. All structured that hygrothermally aged higher temperature less stiff weaker than those unaged. This result increased heat exacerbating ingress water consequently damaging fibre-matrix interfaces plasticizing matrix. results showed had clear stiffness Composites with exhibited superior elastic values compared Hashin damage model accurate predicting failure CFRP composites, evidenced comparison fracture paths observed after mechanical testing.

Synergetic Use of Thermal and Acoustic Emission in Studying Tensile Behaviour of Fibre Reinforced Composites

The possibility to combine the use of acoustic emission and thermal emission as real-time monitoring techniques on carbon-epoxy composites is the subject of this paper. Tensile tests are therefore performed, using a cross-head speed not too high so to enable a reliable detection of acoustic emission signals, but suitable also for the needs of the thermal emission technique,. The latter techniqu...

Tensile Behaviour and Fracture Characteristics of Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) filled Silica Composites

The focus of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties and fracture behaviour of polydimethylsiloxane filled crystalline silica composites (PDMSJCS) via tensile test. The PDMSICS composites were fabricated by using casting method and cured at room temperature for 24 hours. Crystalline silica were filled into PDMS at composition of 2, 6, 10 wt%. The tensile properties of PDMS/2wt%CS...

Effect of Chemical Treatments on Flax Fibre Reinforced Polypropylene Composites on Tensile and Dome Forming Behaviour

Tensile tests were performed on two different natural fibre composites (same constituent material, similar fibre fraction and thickness but different weave structure) to determine changes in mechanical properties caused by various aqueous chemical treatments and whether any permanent changes remain on drying. Scanning electronic microscopic examinations suggested that flax fibres and the flax/p...

Effects of hygrothermal stress on the failure of CFRP composites

This paper investigates the hygrothermal effects on the failure mechanisms in bending of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Accelerated diffusion testing was carried out by immersion at 50°C constant temperature and 70 bar hydrostatic pressure to study the effects of fresh or sea water diffusion into pre-preg CFRP laminates. Consequently the composite laminates were tested in be...

NDT of free formed CFRP composites with laser ultrasonics

In recent years the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) in manufacturing of aircraft and auto cars has increased continually. These materials are of interest because of their excellent mechanical properties like high strength and stiffness at low weight. In consequence of the development of new production processes machine-made CFRP components became more complex in design and shape....
